An AED at home or in the office is the first step towards a heart-safe environment. But a defibrillator that doesn't work at the crucial moment due to a dead battery or dried-out electrodes is not a safety net; it's a risk. Good AED maintenance is therefore not a secondary matter, but an obligation. In this article, we explain how you can fully outsource your duty of care with a service contract or maintenance subscription and keep your device always ready for use.

Is an AED inspection mandatory?

Yes. According to the Working Conditions Act, as the owner, you are responsible for a properly functioning device. Many insurers also stipulate a demonstrable periodic inspection as a strict condition for coverage in the event of incidents. Although modern AEDs perform a built-in self-test, this never replaces a physical AED inspection by an expert. During an annual inspection, not only the software and external condition are checked, but also the capacity of the internal battery, something a self-test does not measure.

The benefits of an AED maintenance contract

With a maintenance subscription, you no longer have to worry about the technical aspects. Our service agreements standardly offer:

  • Annual maintenance costs that are fixed in advance, without unexpected extras
  • A 24/7 helpdesk for technical support or guidance after use
  • Reading out the AED after use, so that data can be shared with the treating cardiologist
  • A complete safety check of both the device and the outdoor cabinet

Never again an expired battery or electrodes

A common problem in practice: owners forget the expiration date of their electrodes or order a new battery too late. The conductive gel on electrodes dries out over time, preventing them from conducting properly during a resuscitation. This is precisely when an AED is most needed.

Our free service reminder eliminates this risk. You automatically receive a reminder when your battery needs to be replaced or your electrodes are due for replacement — without you having to keep track of any data yourself.

What does AED maintenance cost?

The annual maintenance costs for a service contract average between €55 and €197.50 per year, depending on the package and device type. Compared to the certainty of a working device at a moment when every second counts, this is an investment that always pays for itself. On our maintenance page, you will find an overview of all available packages.
