The CellAED seemed like a promising step towards cardiac safety in every household: compact, affordable, and ultra-portable. The device was introduced with great enthusiasm in the Netherlands around 2022 as an accessible alternative to traditional AEDs. However, at the beginning of 2026, manufacturer Rapid Response Revival (RRR) officially went into liquidation. For Dutch owners, this has direct consequences for the safety and usability of their device.

What exactly happened to CellAED?

The CellAED operated on a closed subscription model. The device had a fixed shelf life of 24 months and did not feature replaceable parts. Through the "CellAED for Life" subscription, you would automatically receive a new unit every two years. Due to the manufacturer's bankruptcy, this model has immediately collapsed:

  • No more replacements: The subscription model has been discontinued. No new units will be delivered.
  • Safety warning: Multiple international regulators have issued a Critical Recall. Without active technical support and factory monitoring, the reliability of the defibrillation shock can no longer be guaranteed.
  • Warranty and service void: Defects can no longer be reported, and repairs are not possible.

Is my CellAED still safe to use?

Based on our experience with AED maintenance and the issued safety warnings, we advise against using a CellAED as a primary aid in case of cardiac arrest — even if the expiration date has not yet passed. Without factory support, there is no certainty about the device's functionality when it truly matters.

What are the alternatives?

Resuscitation is a matter of seconds. Therefore, switching to a proven A-brand AED is the only responsible choice. Devices from Philips, ZOLL, Physio-Control, and Defibtech offer:

  • A lifespan of 8 to 10 years with easily replaceable batteries and electrodes
  • Continuous factory support and software updates
  • Certification in accordance with European MDR legislation for medical devices
  • A stable supply chain for consumables

What can you do now?

Do you have a CellAED at home or in the office? Immediately check the expiration date on the device. If it has expired, or if you doubt its reliability, do not take any risks. We are happy to help you switch to an alternative that fully meets all medical standards and guarantees long-term support.
