Mijn AED is ingezet, wat nu?

My AED has been deployed, what now?

You hope you never have to experience it, but it can happen: your AED is called in and used during a resuscitation. It's a tense moment, and proof that your device and your efforts truly can save lives. Once the rescue is over and the AED is returned to you, the next step begins: making sure it's fully operational again.

When HartslagNu calls your AED, you'll automatically receive a notification by email and text message. The first responder who takes the AED is obligated to return it afterward. Once this is done, check whether the device has actually been used. If so, temporarily deactivate the AED in your HartslagNu account so it isn't called again while you're still checking and maintaining it.

Then replace the electrodes, which are disposable, and check the battery. If the AED has delivered multiple shocks or has been in use for a long time, the battery may need to be replaced. Don't forget to record the new expiration dates for the electrodes and battery in your account so your records remain up-to-date.

Once everything is back to normal, set your AED to "active" again in HartslagNu. This will make it available for future calls.

You can usually get reimbursed for used parts through the ambulance service in the region where the resuscitation took place. The email you receive after the rescue will contain the address of the rescuer, which you'll need for your claim. For privacy reasons, the house number is not shared.

Experiencing resuscitation can be traumatic, even if you didn't perform the resuscitation yourself. Take the time to process this and talk about it with those around you.
